Oregon Hang Gliding School highly recommends several options that will improve your confidence, feelings of security & comfort, and practicality in ordering your harness. The Tracer Plus option with OHGS insignia, heavy duty cordura, 1/4 foam insulation, extra buckle, and waist high tow loops provides the best long term usability and comfort in your harness. The extra pockets can be used for long cross country attempts and room enough for oxygen systems and water supplies. We also recommend Black exterior as way of always look less scuffed and dirty after several seasons of use but a light interior to be able to find gear that is stowed in the harness. The OHGS insignia denotes you as one of my students thus improving trust of likely mentors you will need after official lessons. Please order these options.
- All measurements should be take with flying shoes on.
- Indicate measurements from the point of reference to the floor.
Weight: Be honest
Top of Shoulder: From the top of the shoulder where you would expect the shoulder pad to set around the front curvature of the pilot then to the floor. It is very important to measure down the front of the pilot. If you measure straight down the harness might end up too short.
Arm Pit: Have the pilot hold a book under his/her arm. Measure from the top edge to the floor.
Center of Gravity: The pilot must balance on a horizontal bar or saw horse with arms in flying position. Once balanced have the pilot put a finger on the balance point and stand up. Measure from the balance point to the floor.
Center of knee: This is where the knee bends.
Largest Chest Circumference: Have the pilot take a deep breath and measure around the largest circumference you can find close to the chest area.
Largest Hip Circumference: Look for the largest circumference you can find in the hip-upper thigh area.
Flying Shoes: Does the pilot wear hiking boots, Moon boots, or tennis shoes.
Unusual Body Proportions: Let us know if we need to make any further pattern adjustments when cutting the harness i.e. wide chest, large neck, big gut, short legs.
Chest Hip/stomach Have the pilot lay on the floor face up, arms away from the body. Measure from the floor under the pilots arm (the widest circumference) over the chest under the other arm to the floor. Repeat at the largest hip location.
